This course contains Session 3 of E&A Team's Multifamily Accessibility Summit (recorded from the Live Presentation done in April of 2020). Session 3 covers the accessibility requirements for multifamily housing under The Fair Housing Act.  The Fair Housing Act requires all multifamily housing developments with four or more units in a building to include seven features of accessibility. This session takes an in-depth look at each of the seven design and construction requirements for covered multifamily housing. Like our Section 504 training, we will provide videos, graphics, and photographs to show how to ensure your design and construction complies with the requirements, as well as common mistakes that you can avoid. This one and a half hour video features E&A Team's Scott Moore, Fair Housing Attorney.  Larry Fleming, E&A Team's expert architect provides additional commentary.  The session is moderated by E&A Team's President, Mark English. After viewing the video in its entirety, you will receive a certificate stating that you have completed one and a half hours of Fair Housing Act AccessibilityTraining. This course can be bundled with Session 1 (Multifamily Accessibility Overview) and Session 2 (Section 504 Accessibility Requirements).  The bundle provides you with one certificate stating you have completed four hours of Multifamily Accessibility Requirements Training.  There is a cost savings of $25 overall if you choose the Multifamily Accessibility Requirements bundle. This Bundle Includes all three sessions of the Multifamily Accessibility Summit: Multifamily Accessibility Overview This will be an overview of accessibility requirements for Multi-Family Housing properties.  Most people do not realize that there are three federal laws pertaining to accessibility that apply to MFH properties, and these date back to 1974.  Our course presents a timeline with information on each law and standard and how they interact.  We cover why people think they are in compliance, and why it is likely that they are not. Lastly, we will also discuss what the legal ramifications will be if non-compliance is discovered and how that comes about.   Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 If your property receives federal financial assistance, you probably already know something about 504.  Our course takes a “deep dive” into the accessibility requirements and their impact on MFH properties.  More and more tax credit properties are including Section 504 compliance as one of their scoring factors.  We look at the design and construction requirements of the law and standards and how to meet them. Videos, graphics, and photographs show you the requirements and how they can be met.  Fair Housing Act The Fair Housing Act requires all multifamily housing developments with four or more units in a building to include seven features of accessibility. No matter what affordable housing program you work with, each program requires owners and agents to do their due diligence when working with applicants to move them into affordable units, and with current tenants for continued program compliance requirements.   To demonstrate due diligence, a well-planned interview can be seen as a vital step in property management so that we can show and ensure that we move in eligible households for our programs. In addition, by asking the right questions and finding out information we can help ensure that households are paying the correct amount of rent depending on the program and that the right benefits go to the eligible persons/households.   To be successful in conducting interviews, one must have:    Effective tools for data collection and for communication with those to be interviewed, and   An interview methodology that is used by all staff who conduct interviews.   In this 90-minute recording of a live webinar, E&A Team’s, Tari Bradley, Housing Compliance Trainer, will review interview techniques that will help those in the site office pop the questions…the right questions to help  determine eligibility and maintain compliance.   Topics will include:   Using an interview plan as an effective way to ensure consistent results   Practical interview techniques   Common mistakes in interviewing   Interviewing persons with disabilities  Due to the allotted time frame, please note a full instruction of each area may not be available during this specific webinar but may be available in future webinars so please ensure you continue to check the E&A Team training calendar for future webinar dates, etc. Read more
