Description
E&A Team's Multifamily Accessibility Design Requirements Under Federal Laws and Texas Accessibility Code course was designed to meet the requirements for the Texas Department of Housing & Community Affair's (TDHCA) QAP.
It consists of four instructional modules and a comprehensive exam.
Multifamily Accessibility Overview (ADA, 504, Fair Housing Act) - 1 hour
Multifamily Accessibility Requirements under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 - 1.5 hours
Multifamily Accessibility Requirements under the Fair Housing Act - 1.5 hours
Texas Accessibility Code Requirements - .5 hours
Upon successful completion of the course materials and exams, trainees will receive a certificate stating that they have had five hours of Multifamily Accessibility Requirements training that meets the TDHCA QAP.
Objectives
Learning Objectives for Multifamily Accessibility Requirements Under Federal Laws & Texas Accessibility Code
Multifamily Accessibility Requirements Overview: 1 Hour
● Become familiar with the history of the three federal accessibility laws and their impact on multifamily accessibility
● Be able to identify which federal accessibility laws apply to different types of housing developments
● Discover the reasons multifamily owners, design professionals, contractors, builders, etc often believe they are in compliance, and the reasons they may not actually be in compliance.
● Understand the legal ramifications of being out of compliance with the federal accessibility laws
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act: 1.5 Hours
● Understand when Section 504 applies to multifamily properties
● Explore the design and construction requirements under Section 504 and understand how to meet the requirements
● Identify design issues and learn how to remedy them by viewing videos, examining graphics and photographs of design done both incorrectly and correctly.
● Learn the importance of Section 504 as it pertains to scoring factors for tax credit properties
Fair Housing Act 1.5 Hours
● Gain an understanding of each of the Seven Design & Construction Requirements under the Fair Housing Act
● Explore the design and construction requirements under Fair Housing Design Requirements and understand how to meet the requirements.
● Learn common accessibility mistakes made during the design and construction of multifamily properties and how to avoid them.
● Examine multimedia material and be able to identify whether there is an accessibility issue depicted or whether the construction has been done correctly.
TDHCA Texas Accessibility Code (TAC) Requirements
● Become familiar with the TDHCA Texas Accessibility Code requirements
● Learn how the TDHCA Texas Accessibility Code requirements differ from Federal Laws
● Gain an understanding of TDHCA's TAC exceptions, 20% New Construction Requirement, Ongoing Accessibility Requirement, Ongoing Liability , and Substantial Alteration Requirement.
